Kelmscott Manor FAQ

Do I need to pre-book my visit?
You do not need to book your ticket in advance, 50% of the available tickets on our open days are available to those who decide to come without booking. However, if you want to guarantee a specific time for you to enter the Manor house, please book in advance. 


Can I use my phone to show my pre-booked tickets?
Yes, our scanners can scan the barcodes from your confirmation email from a mobile phone or tablet. 


Can I book over the phone?
No, we are unable to take bookings over the phone. If you have any issues booking online, please contact us. 

Why won't my payment go through?

Due to security reasons, our payment provider, WorldPay, does not support Apple devices with an operating system of iOS 14/mac OS X 11 or earlier.

I have changed my plans; can I swap my pre-booked tickets/get a refund?
We can change the date and time of your pre-booked tickets to another slot if there is availability. Please phone 01367 252486 to speak to a member of staff. 

No refunds can be made for any pre-booked paid tickets. 


How do I get my pre-booked ticket?
You will receive your booking confirmation by email, just bring this with you, either on your mobile device or as a printout. The email will contain a barcode that our team will scan when you arrive. If you are unable to bring a copy of your ticket, we can scan it from your phone or find it on our system.


Can you post me my booking confirmation?
No. Booking confirmations are sent by email only. You can print it out or just bring it with you on your mobile device. 


Why can’t I select the time slot that I want?
Time slots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. However, tickets will be available for all time slots on the day for visitors who do not wish to book in advance. The ticket office opens at 10.30am on our public open days. 


I have not received my confirmation email.
Please check that it has not gone to your spam folder first. If you still cannot find it, call us on 01367 252486 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday. 


I am a Fellow of the Society, Affiliate Member, Friend of Kelmscott Manor, Historic House Member. How do I book a ticket?
Historic Houses members cannot book online. Please bring your current membership card to be validated on arrival. Failure to bring your membership card will require payment of a full-price ticket. 

Society Fellows must sign in at the ticket office on arrival. 

Affiliate Members must bring their Society Library cards with them as proof of being an Affiliate Member to qualify for a concession ticket. Failure to bring your library card may require payment of a full-price ticket. 


Can I get free entry if I am a member of the National Trust?
No, we are not part of the National Trust. We are free for Historic House Members or if you are a Fellow of the Society or a Friend of Kelmscott Manor. 


I have been delayed and will be late for my booking, can I still come?
Please let us know if you will be late, we will try to accommodate you, but it will be dependent on how busy we are for the remainder of the day.

How do I pay for pre-booked tickets?
We accept Visa, Visa Debit, and Mastercard. 


Is there a booking fee?
No


What is a concession?
Full-time students with NUS cards, Children under the age of 17 and those who are unable to access the 1st and 2nd floors of the Manor are eligible for Concession tickets. 


Do you offer a concession of over 65s?
No. We do not offer a concession for over 65s. Those who are unable to access the 1st and 2nd floors of the Manor are eligible for Concession tickets.


I am disabled, can I bring a helper?
Yes, you can bring a companion or helper for free. Please select an ‘Essential Companion’ ticket when you pre-book, for your companion. We do not ask for proof of disability and essential companions do not need to be a registered carer. Please contact us if you would like any additional information regarding accessibility before your visit. 


What ticket should I get for my child?
You do not need to pay for under 5s, but you do need to book a free ticket for them. For those aged 5 to 16, please buy ‘child’ tickets. 


Is there a student discount?
Yes, full-time students with NUS cards are eligible for Concession tickets. You will need to show your card when you arrive – without it you will be charged the full price ticket. 


Do I need to pay to visit the shop/tearoom/gardens?
No. Tickets are only required to go in the house, you are welcome to visit the shop/tearoom/gardens for free. When doing this please ensure you still visit the ticket office to get a free garden visitor ticket as this allows us to keep track of the number of visitors on site. 


Will I get a refund if the site closes on the day I have booked for?
If we must close the manor, we will automatically refund your tickets. You will not need to call us to request it. It may take up to 14 working days to reach your account. 


I have tested positive for Covid and have booked a ticket – can I get a refund?
Please contact us on 01367 252486 and we can move your booking to another date and time. 


What is there for families to do?
Families are welcome in the House with information for children in most rooms. Visit the Learning Barn for trails and craft activities that can be taken outside with you and the Meadow games chest for some outdoor games.  



Tearoom / Shop


Does your tearoom cater to different dietary needs?
We try to ensure we offer a varied menu that caters to as many of our visitors needs as possible. This includes Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free options. Please be aware that although we offer gluten free options, they are not prepared in a gluten free environment. We do however have some prepacked gluten free cakes. If you have any specific dietary requirements you would like to discuss please ask a member of our tearoom staff, and if you have any allergies, please ensure you inform them of these before ordering. 


Do you have a children’s menu?
Yes. we have children’s options available. 


What time do you serve lunch from?
Lunch is available from 12.00-2.00pm 


Can I pre book a table for lunch?
No. it is not possible to book a table in advance however we have plenty of tables available both inside our tearoom and outside on our tea lawn. 


Do you do Afternoon Tea?
We do not offer afternoon tea however a Cream Tea is available from 2.30pm onwards. 


Is your tearoom/shop open when the Manor is closed?
No. Both our tearoom and shop are only open on our public open days Thursday-Saturday. 


Do you have an online shop?
Not currently however we are working on this. 



General Questions


Can I bring a picnic?
Yes, and in addition, our tearoom will also be open. We ask visitors who wish to picnic do so on our back meadow rather than the tearoom lawn. 


Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome on site but must stay on their lead however dogs are not allowed in the House or walled garden. All guide dogs, assistance dogs and emotional support dogs are welcome in the House and walled garden, please let staff and volunteers aware when you enter the House. 

Please do not leave pets unattended in parked cars. 

If we become aware of a distressed dog in a vehicle, staff will attempt to locate the owner and may contact emergency services for the dog’s welfare. 


Is it permitted to smoke / vape anywhere on site?
We would ask our visitors to use the back meadow area to smoke or vape away from other visitors. No smoking is allowed in any of the buildings on the estate. 


Is photography allowed?
Visitors are welcome to take photographs during their visits; however, please adhere to the following: 

Do not use flash photography, protruding lenses, and tripods, “selfie sticks” or other extension equipment. 

Do not cause inconvenience to other visitors or behave in a way that put any objects on display at risk while taking photographs. 

Do not take photos of any objects forming part of temporary or special exhibitions where signage clearly specifies a “no photography” policy. 

For security reasons, do not video or film without express prior permission. 

Visitors are welcome to upload photos of objects on display that they have taken for their personal, non-commercial use to their personal Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or other social media with appropriate attribution to the Society of Antiquaries of London so that it is clear the objects from which the photos have been taken form part of the Society’s collection. Please tag our Facebook page, Twitter, or Instagram Account.
